WellBound would like to recognize yet another of our “Members Doing Good;” Michaela J.
Michaela is very involved in our community through various organizations and performs acts of kindness toward both humans and animals.
St. Vincent DePaul is just one organization that benefits from Michaela’s volunteerism. Here, she serves on the Outreach Council, supporting efforts to provide formation in Catholic Social Teaching, is the Steering Committee Chair for the Divine Mercy Food Pantry located at St. Vincent DePaul, visits the home bound, and is a lector at mass. The Divine Mercy food pantry currently serves approximately 100 people per month and is completely funded and stocked by the parish.
Cooking and preparing meals for those at the Domestic Violence Shelter is also something in which Michaela volunteers her time and she has been helping others with their educations by mentoring youth at Boys Town as a reading tutor.
The things Michaela finds most rewarding about her volunteer work are:
Working with lots of great people, doing things she loves like cooking and teaching, and knowing she is spending time making the world a little better for others.
Maggie, a 6-year-old Bichon Frise also benefits from Michaela being in her life as she was adopted from the Little White Dog Rescue. Maggie was a scared, introverted little girl who has flourished from the love given to her by Michaela and Mary Ann (Maggie’s roommates).
Michaela visits WellBound to exercise several days per week and says the thing she enjoys most about classes is feeling like she is dancing again, as she took dance lessons for years. She also enjoys concerts, museums, and theater and is impressed with the many small theaters Omaha offers. When living in Maryland, Michaela sang in a choir at St. Rose, and would like to do so again.
Another part of Michaela’s creative side is her love of visiting craft fairs and designing and painting greeting cards. We hope to convince her to bring in some of them to display in our little gift shop!
Thank you Michaela for all you do for our community!
